The Birth of Mindset Mastery

I (Belinda) developed Mindset Mastery to help people conquer emotional eating, which is a common obstacle to achieving and maintaining their weight and health goals.

Our core programs at Optimising Nutrition are designed to help a normal eater learn essential skills such as:

  • Data-Driven Fasting: Understanding when and how much to eat based on your body’s needs.
  • Macros Masterclass: Increasing protein intake and improving satiety to eat less naturally.
  • Micros Masterclass: Boosting essential micronutrients for optimal vitality and longevity.  

These programs are fantastic for weight loss and muscle building because they follow personalized data and make gradual changes. However, not everyone is a ‘normal eater.’ 

Giving your body the nutrients it needs to thrive is critical to satisfy your cravings, but some people need more help. 

The Emotional Eating Epidemic

In today’s fast-paced, high-stress world, many of us turn to food to cope.

Occasional emotional eating is normal, but when it becomes a default coping mechanism to escape from the challenges in our daily lives, it can lead to serious issues, including binge-eating disorder.

Emotional eating often starts innocently enough: using food to unwind, find comfort, or escape boredom. But it quickly becomes a crutch, leading to a dependence on ultra-processed, nutrient-poor foods that never truly satisfy.

Big Food companies have engineered these ‘kryptonite’ foods — like cake, ice cream, and pizza —to be irresistible to maximise profits by preying on our physiological and psychological weaknesses.

They light up our brain’s reward centres and create a cycle of dependence. You crave them for psychological comfort and soothing and the physiological dopamine rewards.

Breaking the Cycle with Mindset Mastery

Simply knowing ‘what to eat’ is not enough for emotional eaters.

Binge eating is usually an outward symptom of a deeper issue. But because we often use food as a band-aid to cover the root cause, we are often unaware of why we can’t stop eating. 

The solution lies in understanding and addressing the emotional needs that food is fulfilling.

Getting to the root cause of why people soothe themselves or zone out and avoid their feelings with food is the only way to break free from the hold that food has over them.

This is where Mindset Mastery comes in. We designed Mindset Mastery to help you:

A Personal Journey

I (Belinda) have walked this path myself and know how it feels.

From an early age, I used food to manage my emotions. I felt addicted to food and ate as many pieces of cake, chocolate, or pizza as I could get my hands on when I was upset or bored.

I ate chips in the closet where I would not be seen. I would sneak back into the kitchen for more sweets and then felt ashamed that I could not leave the dessert alone until it was gone.

My journey took a dramatic turn at 29 when I woke up in extreme pain and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer via emergency surgery several hours later. My emotional eating escalated into binge-eating disorder as I struggled to cope with my diagnosis and recovery.

At one point, I thought I was going crazy with every thought involving food or self-hatred around food… until I learned I had an eating disorder.

Without affordable or helpful eating disorder treatment options available, I embarked on a relentless quest for knowledge and healing. Through years of research, trial and error, and a determination to break free, I conquered my eating disorder and emotional eating and found peace with food.

Now, instead of eating everyone else’s chocolate, I can keep chocolate in the house for months and not eat it – because it does not appeal anymore.

Helping Others Achieve Freedom

On the day I realised I was a normal eater again, I vowed to help others break free from the prison of emotional eating.

After years of developing programs and helping clients break free from their diet thinking and emotional eating, I met Marty Kendall at Optimising Nutrition.

With his guidance and programs, I lost forty pounds in the first four months (85 pounds or 38 kg, so far) without any hunger or food struggles. However, I could only make this consistent progress because I no longer struggled with binge eating or emotional eating.
